WEBINAR: Practical implications for the supply chain post COVID-19

The second webinar hosted by UKWA this month, presented by Associate member Weightmans LLP, focused on the legal and practical steps members can take to adapt to the changed world, mitigate risks and prepare to navigate the supply chains of the future.

A panel of legal specialists looked at topics including how businesses could increase the resilience and security of supply chains by restructuring, regulatory issues around driver health and behaviour, as well as changing employment terms and conditions post furlough.

Discussions around employees ranged from a likely increase in complaints and an appetite for more flexible working hours to stricter safety policies and support for mental illness. Businesses were advised to multi-skill employees where possible in preparation for a second period of furloughing and to include lay-off clauses in new contracts.

The prevailing message was that post-COVID was unlikely to be any time soon and that businesses should prepare for a possible second spike in the pandemic. Emphasising that ‘contract is king’, the Weightmans team urged businesses to ensure that their documentation and records were up to date and that contracts had built-in flexibility.

They warned too of the rise in cyber-fraud and recommended businesses ensured suitable cyber insurance was in place.
