UKWA congratulates John Lewis Partnership on NHS test and Trace Rapid COVID-19 Testing First

December 22, 2020

UKWA member, The John Lewis Partnership, has become one of the first UK businesses to successfully pilot and roll out NHS Test and Trace lateral flow Covid-19 testing, thanks to a partnership with the Department of Health and Social Care.

Rapid Covid-19 testing was introduced initially to the national John Lewis distribution centre at Magna Park, Milton Keynes in November, which has processed around 135,000 johnlewis.com orders per day during the month in response to huge Black Friday and pre-Christmas demand.

Due to the pilot’s initial success, John Lewis Partnership has announced that testing will now be available at 40 John Lewis and Waitrose locations in England.

Working closely with NHS Test and Trace, it will provide capability to test around 16,000 Partners and temporary agency staff per week and enable John Lewis and Waitrose to meet customer needs throughout the festive season.

Commenting on this achievement, UKWA CEO Peter Ward says, “Our warm congratulations to John Lewis Partnership, one of the founder members of the Association’s ‘Logistics Users’ group. The company has a well-deserved reputation for being an industry leader and is always keen to share best practice with colleagues and peers. It is no surprise therefore that The John Lewis Partnership is once again one of the first in the UK to engage in the testing and roll out of this important initiative in helping combat the global pandemic that has so impacted us all.”

In a recent UKWA webinar, ‘Coping with COVID: Sharing best practice’, John Munnelly, Head of Distribution Operations at John Lewis, joined leading figures from the Association’s management board to share the range of COVID-secure measures in place at John Lewis Partnership to keep partners and customers safe.

According to Andrew Murphy, Executive Director for Operations, rapid testing builds on this at the company’s busiest time of the year.
