Since 1st January and the end of the EU Transition period, there has been a huge increase in demand for Customs Warehouses; facilities in which to store imported goods without payment of import duties. Now that duty is payable on goods imported into the UK for distribution into Europe, where they will be taxed again, there is much interest in storing them tax free in the UK to avoid the double duty charge.
But how do you set up a Customs Warehouse? What authorisations do you need? Is it difficult to operate? How does the HMRC approve your business?
