UKWA Submission to the APPG for Freight and Logistics:
• The warehousing sector, when compared to the wider freight and logistics industry, as well as UK total
employment figures, performs favourably in attracting ethnically diverse talent, and younger people,
though concerns remain over large volumes of senior directors and managers approaching retirement.
• The warehousing sector remains male-dominated, particularly so when compared with UK total
employment, though less so when compared with the freight and logistics industry as a whole.
• Recruitment and skills are consistently cited by UKWA members as some of the biggest problems they
are facing over the next few years.
• Perception of the sector remains the largest and most commonly cited barrier to entry, though the
changing nature and uprating of skills requirements due to advancements in technology and the road to
net-zero will be key in addressing this.
