Stroud, Glos. December 2011: Howard Tenens was delighted to host a visit by the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, Mike Penning MP, at its London, (South Ockendon) gas refuelling site. The Company leads the logistics industry in low carbon transport and took the opportunity to brief the Minister on the roll-out of dual fuel (gas/diesel) vehicles across its HGV fleet and the installation of three gas refuelling stations, two of which are grid connected.
Howard Tenens views compressed natural gas (CNG) as a stepping stone to biomethane – the most sustainable low carbon fuel for the haulage industry. Ensuring CNG vehicles and infrastructure are in place now is imperative to support the future uptake of biomethane (either directly or virtually through the national grid). To expedite the development of the low carbon transport sector Howard Tenens are offering access to their gas refuelling stations (at Andover, Boston and South Ockendon to date) so others can enter the gas vehicle market without the high cost of refuelling infrastructure.
Following the visit, the Minister said, “It is a real honour to be here not only in the front line of the haulage industry but to hear about the innovations in fuel and vehicle technology. Howard Tenens are clearly setting the trends for the way forward.”
Catherine Crouch, Group Environment Director for Howard Tenens commented, “It was a privilege to have Mike Penning MP visit our natural gas refuelling station and ride in one of our dual fuel vehicles. We were really pleased to hear that the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport supports CNG (compressed natural gas) as a transport fuel of the future.” lower carbon fuel for Heavy Goods Vehicles and understands the importance natural gas plays in ensuring the UK can develop a market for renewable gas, biomethane, as a transport fuel of the future."
