Global forwarders have called on the Chinese authorities to introduce more consistent and efficient customs systems. In an interview with online publication IFW (www.ifw-net.com), Hermann Ude, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding, said huge savings could be made on logistics costs in China through improved import and export processes. “There are two principal issues in China,” he said. “One is the lack of consistency across the country – the same customs laws, but many different interpretations – and the other is having to deal with many different government departments over the same issue, which is very time consuming.” He suggested that a government “one-stop shop” system would help expedite trade.
