About AG Barr
The Barr family has been in the business of making, moving and selling soft drinks for over 130 years. The company started in 1875 when former Chairman Robin Barr's great grandfather Robert Barr established a soft drinks business at the company’s first factory at Burnfoot Lane in Falkirk. A second Barr soft drinks business was established in Glasgow in 1887 by Robert Barr's son, Robert Fulton Barr. His business was taken over by his brother Andrew Greig Barr, from whom the present company gets its name. In 1901 both Barr soft drinks businesses, Robert Barr Falkirk and A.G.Barr and Co. Glasgow, jointly launched their original recipe IRON BREW.
The phonetic spelling IRN-BRU was introduced in 1947 following concern over proposed changes to food labelling regulations. IRN-BRU has since gone on to become the much loved and popular brand that it is today. As well as IRN-BRU their range of popular soft drinks brands includes Tizer, D'N'B, KA, Barr flavour range, Strathmore Spring Water, St Clements juice drinks, Simply juice drinks, TAUT sports drinks, Vitsmart enhanced waters and Rubicon exotic juice drinks. They are also the franchise partner of Schweppes International Limited in the UK, where they manufacture and sell Orangina under license and have a partnership with Rockstar Inc. in the USA to sell and distribute their Rockstar energy drink brand in the UK and Ireland.
AG Barr have successfully developed their business through a combination of building on exisiting brands like IRN-BRU, developing an expertise in franchise brand management with international brands such as Orangina, innovating and developing new products and where appropriate acquiring exciting new brands like Strathmore Spring Water, TAUT, Vitsmart and Rubicon to broaden their product portfolio.
Today AG Barr’s 1000 plus employees work across 12 sites in the UK with a regional sales and administration office in Bolton and 5 production sites at Cumbernauld, Mansfield, Forfar, Tredeger and Pitcox.
