About Warburtons

The history of Warburton’s Bakery can be traced back to 1870 when married couple Thomas and Ellen Warburton decided to purchase a small grocery shop in Bolton .  During a slump in the grocery trade Ellen had a brainwave to bake bread. Selling her first batch in under an hour convinced the couple to rename the shop “Warburtons the Bakers.” Since these humble beginnings, Warburtons has placed a great emphisis on remaining a family-run business concentating on providing quality products to its customers.  To achieve this consistant high standard the company works with a range of partners who are experts in their field and unlike most bakers who buy their flour in,  Warburtons have hundreds of farmers growing only Warburtons wheat.  Today the company is the UK's third biggest bread manufacturer after Allied Bakeries and RHM (British Bakeries) employing around 3,300 people at eleven bakeries across the country and producing one million bakery products per day. It continues to make no own-label products, just its own.
