About JCB The company was founded by Joseph Cyril Bamford in October 1945 in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. Conducting the business from a rented a lock-up garage 12 feet by 15 feet and using a welding set bought second-hand for £1 from English Electric, he made his first vehicle, a tipping trailer from war-surplus materials. The trailer's sides and floor were made from steel sheets that had been part of air-raid shelters. On the same day that his son Anthony was born, he sold the trailer at a nearby market for £45 (plus a part-exchanged farm cart) and at once made another trailer. Today, JCB has some of the finest engineering facilities across the globe, produces a range of over 300 machines and maintains a reputation for unrivalled customer service. JCB is one of the world's top three manufacturers of construction equipment employing around 7,000 people on 4 continents selling their products in 150 countries through 1,500 dealer depot locations. In every corner of the world you'll find a JCB machine. As a responsible company, JCB has the greatest respect for the environment and its employees, as these were the foundations of their success over the past 65 years. Recent successes include a reduction of 23% in our direct carbon emissions since 2007, a 50% drop in our accident potential rate and a 16% improvement in fuel consumption from our new Backhoe Loader model. Under the banner of JCB Sustainable Innovation, they are committed to sharing our progress with our stakeholders. JCB collaborate with the world’s leading companies, governments and individuals to help achieve goals, as it is through co-operation that they will help to deliver collective prosperity and a sustainable society for future generations.
